“The students from Harrison Park Elementary School experience her polite graciousness, infectious smile and friendly waves,” Kent County Commissioner Carol Hennessy said. “Even drivers often grumping along on their daily routes have their moods turned around finding they can’t help but smile as they pass her.”
Cimochowicz said she is one of those who found her mood turned by Dobbs amid the hustle and bustle of city traffic.
Under the leadership of Cimochowicz, members of the group pooled money to get the crossing guard two new pairs of boots from Mieras Family Shoes Friday, Nov. 10.
Dobbs, who was all smiles,
began to tear up with gratitude as she decided on Uggs and Bogs.
“I’m so thankful for everyone,” Dobbs said. “I really enjoy seeing (the children), keeping them safe.”
She was greeted at the store with flowers donated from Ball Park Floral and Gifts. Rose Bowl Floral and Gifts surprised her with flowers while she was working on Thursday.
Bobbie Woods, Dobbs’ aunt, also works as a school crossing guard and was also presented with a pair of boots during the gathering.
“It is a special person who can brighten the day through a simple smile and a wave to everyone who crosses her path,” Hennessy said of Dobbs. “She brings out the best in people and they would like to do something for her.”
