boy ugg boots Calgary Roughnecks put together team effort in win over the Rock
After a couple of weeks of might haves and what ifs, the Calgary Roughnecks finally put together the performance they been sorely lacking.
For 60 minutes, the Roughnecks overwhelmed the Toronto Rock at both ends of the floor and strode away with a 16 8 National Lacrosse League triumph at the Air Canada Centre ending their four game losing skein. In the process, they served the Rock their first loss in five games.
goal as a team is to get better in all areas, said Roughnecks head coach Curt Malawsky. we were good across the board and I think the result showed it. Our offence the last three games has gotten a lot better, our defence has gotten better. Our special teams were big tonight. That was the most complete game we played and more than anything it the belief the players have. triumph couldn have come at a more opportune time as the Roughnecks will entertain a couple of divisional rivals in the Colorado Mammoth and Vancouver Stealth in the next couple of weekends at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Backstopped by acrobatic young netminder Christian Del Bianco, who earned his first NLL victory, Calgary (2 5) fell behind early but stayed with Toronto until they took off in the third quarter and left the Rock in their wake. Curtis Dickson scored four times two on the power play and one shorthanded and Dane Dobbie added a hat trick as the entire offence got into the fun. Two of Dobbie goals were of the cheeky behind the back variety, an indicator of how everything was working for the Riggers on this night.
Del Bianco was busy in facing 55 shots.
obviously pretty awesome, said the 20 year old, who was awarded the game ball. say it about time. I had a lot of failing before success, but I think part of that is just growing. Obviously, it exciting but it more than that; getting the win in general with the team.
awesome to have (the ball). Put it somewhere back in the house and a couple of years from now I can look back at it all. was outstanding,
agreed Malawsky. think he came into the game calm and confident and I think that has a lot to do with Frank Scigliano being a real good mentor to him and building him up. I think it starts right there. Christian being a young guy, he very athletic, he has a really good demeanour for a goaltender and he lightning fast. There times in the game when they had some pushback and he made some big saves. The guys in that room and the coaching staff couldn be happier for Christian to get his first NLL win. key juncture in the game was early in the third, when Toronto Adam Jones was handed a five minute penalty for spearing Mike Carnegie. During that power play, Calgary tallied twice to make it 7 7. Tom Schreiber scored soon after to give the Rock the advantage, but it was at that point the Roughnecks embarked on an impressive nine goal run.
The Rock, who in their previous four wins had averaged just over 20 goals per game, were stunned into submission, largely handcuffed by the brilliant play of Del Bianco.
we all believe in each other in this room, said Del Bianco. the offence wasn scoring, the would get it going and then when the wasn making the stops, the would get us back in it. It not one person who wins the game. victory was Malawsky 46th as a Calgary head coach, tying the late Chris Hall atop the franchise list.
have nothing but respect for Chris Hall, he said. a legend and an icon,
both in field and in box lacrosse. He set the standard for a lot of us young coaches. He sorely missed but he always looking over the NLL and the lacrosse world.
