A return to luxury, a dash of glam, asense of playfulness and all things ultrafeminine. If the first few looks are to go by, this is the fashion follower’s dream autumn winter. Stock up now.

1 A velvet tuxedo suit: Velvet with its luxe texture and snug appeal is just the right thing to be seen in this autumn. While last season it was all about a velvet over coat, this season set a trend in a velvet suit. But while investing in one, keep a simple rule in mind a fitted velvet jacket can be paired with wide legged trousers ( so in right now) but a man jacket will only look good with skinny velvet pants. The colours to go for are midnight blue, smoky grey and leaf green.

2 A short jump suit: Yes we know that designers promoted jumpsuits all summer with their relaxed fit and easy breathe fabric. We suggest you go with the jumpsuits for autumn, but in winter fabrics and in shorter variations. Wondering how thigh high jumpsuits fit into the chilly weather ahead? Says designer Mandira Wirk, “Pair up warm snug black opaque stockings with your short jumpsuits.” As for the fabrics she says, ” Go for herringbone, wool mix and fabrics that are used to make men’s trousers. You can also go for coloured denim jumpsuits or big prints.”

3 Flared satin trousers: Designer Preeti S. Kapoor recommends a retro revival this autumn with wide legged trousers in a rich fabric like satin. The designer says, “Satin is just the right fabric for autumn as it is thick but also gives a sexy fall. Pair it will a fitted top or a corset and throw on a jacket.”

4 The perfect black dress: The quintessential black dress must have helped you sail through many seasons, summer or winter, but this autumn go a little bit more romantic. Instead of a mini black dress go for a knee length version with a lacy texture or frills on top. Says Bollywood stylist Surily Goel,
ugg boots clearance 25 key looks for the season
“As the winter winds will anyway make you cover up with a stole or a jacket leaving no place for accessories to show through, its better to choose a dress which is ornate in right proportions and requires no accessorising.” It’s great for an evening out with friends and for a late night party.

5 The autumn booties: This is the time to pick up this hot new trend globally of ankle length booties. These shoes are high heeled and go up to a little above your ankles. They come in both closed toed and open toed variations. Some styles also have a lace tie up to give it a feel of the shoes. They look great with cigarette pants, pencil skirts and a casual dress. You can find some great collections at Nine West and Charles Keith.

6 A long dress coat: You may want to reserve a classic, warm long coat for mid winters. But how about having a nice long jacket coat in semi woollen knits or fabrics in a nice bright colour to perk up your autumn evening look? The knee length coat will work well over your minis, shorts and even a black evening dress. Button it all up and you have an autumn dress ready. Find your pick at Aftershock where they have nice coats in bright colours and fun detailing like ruffles and rosettes.

7 A bling evening clutch: Invest in a nice evening clutch as it works just as well as a statement piece of jewellry. Go for a maxi clutch for maximum impact. We love the glam sequin studded maxi clutches at Nine West which come with matching pumps to complete the look.

8 A faux fur cape: To keep you snug and in tune with the trends a faux fur cape is a good addition to your wardrobe. You can team it with many looks. You can throw it over a nice dress and loosely fasten it for a cool look. Or you can hold it with a bling brooch over a formal dress for the chic effect. We like faux fur capes in interesting colours like jade green and corals at Aftershock and the black capes with big brooches at Forever New.

9 A psychedelic sequin dress: As the winter will set in, it will be time for blacks and greys to take centrestage. So how about playing up the look in a nice psychedelic print dress. We love the over all subtle sequin dresses at Trendy Diva which give out a 3 D effect and make for a great lunch wear outfit and can also make you sail through an evening soiree.

10 A chunky neck piece: A nice chunky choker neckpiece will glam up your look. Ditch the gold and stones variety and go for glass, crystal or even beads studded ones. You will find your piece from Suhani Pittie’s collection who has also done interesting chokers in wood.

11 A nice tote: An interesting haversack must have got you many compliments at your summer beach holiday but now is the time to go for a classy tote that is roomy enough to push your basic winter essentials like a stole and cap into. Bottega Venetta is a class apart but more reasonable options are available at Da Milano and Cheemo.

12 A smart waistcoat: A nice fitted waistcoat gives the feel of impending winter ahead and is just the right look for the season. Designer Preeti S. Kapoor says, ” Go for a velvet waistcoat or choose a fabric like felt which is warm enough for the season.”

13 Tweed shorts: They look perfect and quite in sync with the season when worn over black opaque tights and high heels for the day. The more daring can try bare legs with heels for the night. At Mango the new autumn winter collection comprises of tweed shorts and tweed skirts.

14 Narrow belts: We recommend the narrow belts this season as they can be worn over long shirts and even over dresses. When wrapped around a jacket they complete the autumn look.

15 An ethnic overcoat: A nice overcoat with Indian elements like a zardozi patch or intricate embroidery can complete the party glam look like no other piece. We found some interesting fusion pieces at Derhy.

16 Sequinned tights: We predict it as the next big winter trend this season. A pair of black sequinned tights are a sure fire way to zing up your look. They are so glam with the right dash of clat that you will look trendy even without trying hard. Pair these up with a smart jacket or a puffed sleeve top. But always buy it in a solid colour like black and go for one size big for the right fit. Available at Mango and Forever New.

17 A wrap dress: There is nothing more killer than a nice wrap dress worn over knee high boots to complete the autumn winter look. Go for Black lace dress Rs 10,999/ at Aftershock. Black obi belt Rs 1,299/ Bizzare Red coat with ruffled sleeves Rs 10,999/ at Aftershock winter colours like grey, olives and dunes. We like the collection at Promod and S. Oliver.

18 A puffa evening jacket: Move over boyfriend jackets. Get your very own puffa jacket. With broad shoulder pads in vogue a nice puffa jacket worn over pencil jeans or a dress works wonders.

19 A glam skirt: For some special evenings it’s only a very ladylike dressing like a skirt that does the trick. Go for a diva look with a golden skirt in brocade or sliver tulle and tone it down with a nice black satin or silk top.

20 Opaque stockings: So practical and yet so chic. A nice pair of stockings works well with your shorts, minis, dresses? you name it.

21 The perfect jeans: We know what you will say, a jeans will work no matter the season. But this time go for a slightly de fitted variations that look cool with waistcoats and even with formal shirts.

22 A pashmina stole: Raid your grandma’s trunk if you please but a pashmina stole is a must to beat Delhi winter. Pair it with a dress or a tunic, you just can’t go wrong.

23 A tunic: Though the store have been selling tunics for a while but now is the time to buy yours for the season ahead. With skinny jeans they look fab. Find one at Bizzare or Derhy.

24 Boots uggs: Okay you can keep the thigh high boots for severe winters ahead but a nice knee high pair of boots in colours like dune and grey is a big hit this season. For uggs lovers find your pair with fleece lining for that warm feel at at Marks and Spencers. Go for colours like Dark chocolate and mud brown.

25 A cocktail dress: No season is complete without the perfect club look. Choose warm colours like deep aubergine, burgundy or russet wine in a glamourous fabric like silk tulle or swish satin. Go for patterns like eyelets or fringes for maximum effect.

Liam Choo Foo has accepted a one year position to serve as the Chief Project Officer for Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Education.

After 11 years at the helm of the Chinook School Division, Liam Choo Foo has accepted a one year position to serve as the Chief Project Officer for Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Education.

Choo Foo is taking a one year leave of absence as Director of Education for Chinook after being seconded to assume the position as Chief Project Officer for Provincial Initiatives.

Choo Foo said this opportunity developed very quickly, but he is excited for this chance.

“For me I’ve always found new opportunity and new challenge something that is intriguing. And I guess I’ve got a chance now to have one last kick at doing something that will broadly impact the entire province,” Choo Foo said during a press conference this morning. “I’m flattered that I’m viewed as a person who could go in and have that kind of an impact.”

His duties will focus on the Education Sector Strategic Plan learning initiatives that are already starting to meet provincial success. Choo Foo previously led the Saskatchewan Reads portion of the sector plan, so this new position will broaden his mandate. During the three years following the unveiling of the Saskatchewan Reads strategy, the number of Saskatchewan students reading at grade level in Grade 3 has increased by nine per cent. The Ministry of Education is looking at doing other projects, so Choo Foo will now be the lead on all of those new initiatives.

“That’s the intent right now is that I’ll be going in and heading up a small little team of people that will be in charge of ensuring that all of those projects get completed, but they’re completed in a very high quality fashion.”

Choo Foo intends to return to Chinook in April 2018, but that return depends on the direction chosen by the Board for a succession plan and in what role he would return in.

“The other wild card out there is that often these one year secondments don’t end in one year. At this point in time, my goal is to make sure that when I do retire it is as an employee of Chinook,” he said.

“Chinook is part of who I am,” Choo Foo said. He was the first official employee of Chinook dating back to the school board amalgamation which occurred 11 years ago.

“It’s really hard,” Choo Foo paused to collect his thoughts before concluding “professionally it’s probably the toughest thing I’ll ever have to do.”

Chinook Board of Education board chair Larry Caswell said Choo Foo will be missed because of his long tenure at the helm of the School Division.

“It’s a quantum change for us just because its been the norm for a long time to have Liam as our head and representing us. We’re certainly going to miss him, but we were fortunate to have him for the time we did,” Caswell said.

“We’re sorry to see him go in that we know we’re losing a very effective and very good individual. On the other hand, his effectiveness now will be spread province wide.”

Federal agents said all the allegedly counterfeit items seized during a raid of two Lawrence flea markets on May 10 would retail for $30 million, if they had been real. The seized items include counterfeit designer clothing, handbags, shoes, sportswear and electronics and represented trademarks violations against more than a dozen different brands that include Michael Kors, Nike, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Coach and Ugg Australia. Approximately 100 HSI, state and local law enforcement officers participated in the May 10 operation, ICE said in a statement.

Approximately 100 HSI, state and local law enforcement officers participated in the May 10 operation, ICE said in a statement.

LAWRENCE The mountain of counterfeit goods seized by federal agents from two Lawrence flea markets earlier this month would have been worth $30 million if they were not fake.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the federal Department of Homeland Security, yesterday called the haul the largest in the Homeland Security Investigations Boston office’s history.

“This is an effort to support local, legitimate businesses who have complained of these individuals selling bogus merchandise,” said Interim Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick. “In recent history, I believe this is probably the largest raid in Massachusetts involving counterfeit goods.”

Lawrence police collaborated with Homeland Security officials in an investigation that led to the arrest of 42 people, most of whom live in New York, for selling knockoffs of expensive designer bags, sunglasses and headphones.

All 42 were arraigned in Lawrence District Court on May 12, released without bail and ordered to return for hearings in late June and early July.

ICE said that counterfeit goods and the people who sell them are a drain on the economy. “They put a strain on main street by hurting legitimate businesses and tax payers,” said Special Agent in Charge Bruce Foucart, HSI Boston. “Anyone who thinks counterfeiting is a victimless crime should realize the profits of these black market sales are routinely diverted to support further criminal activity such as drug trafficking and money laundering.”

The seizures targeted the sale and trafficking of counterfeit merchandise and apparel, which Homeland Security said is a multimillion dollar criminal industry.

Police and federal agents raided Don’s Flea Market at 85 Manchester St. and Lawrence Flea Market at 468 N. Canal St. on May 10. Lawrence police said each of the defendants had more than 100 counterfeit items, raising the potential penalty of each person to between 2 1/2 years in jail to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Nearly every flea market in the area has been raided or investigated at least once in the last decade. In 2009 Grandview Flea Market in Derry was raided after a two year investigation, and Salem Flea Market, just across the Methuen line on Hampshire Road, was raided in 2007, 2005 and 2003.

Monterey >> While area hospitals have seen a record number of patients recently with flu related illnesses, those numbers now look to be stabilizing.

That according to Monica Sciuto, a spokeswoman with the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. On Monday she said the number of patients with flu like symptoms had dropped since last Tuesday when the hospital saw a record 234 patients, most of whom were treated in the hospital emergency room. Last year, the hospital average number of patient visitors hovered around 154.

were very busy through Saturday with escalated numbers over 200 visits per day with our mobile medical clinic in action set up through Sunday, said Sciuto. on Sunday we didn have to use it because numbers went down. same was true for Natividad Medical Center, which last week reported the first death in an adult patient with influenza A to the Monterey County Health Department.

have seen a slow down of flu over here, said Drew Massengill, an infection control nurse at the hospital. this point there is no real plan to put up any sort of tent outside. We actually at a very manageable flu level right now. Hospitals are required to report patients who are under the age of 65,

test positive for the flu and are in the intensive care unit.

It was the middle of last week that Community Hospital implemented new restrictions on visitors requiring them to be 16 years or older because of the flu outbreak. Those with cold or flu symptoms were restricted from visiting at all.

The hospital joined Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, which on Dec. 29 temporarily implemented a change in its visitor policy, asking that only visitors 14 and older be allowed in patient care areas. Natividad Medical Center had also placed some restrictions on visitors with those under the age of 12 restricted from inpatient areas.

On Thursday, because of the increased number of patients, the Community Hospital set up medical tents in the hospital garage area to screen overflow patients and brought their mobile clinic to the hospital.

At the peak of patient visits, wait times were up to three to five hours for those with minor illnesses, noted Sciuto. Now, those times have dropped back to around an hour.

Besides record high numbers last Tuesday, the number of patients with the flu was also escalated around Christmas and through New Year From Dec. 24 to Dec. 30,

in a desperate situation. We know it. We need to get points. We need to climb back into this thing and put ourselves in a spot where we can catch teams.

no team in the league where you can come in and say, we just get by tonight and get points. It doesn happen. So we be ready. the Flames, Wednesday showdown with the Sabres marks the first of four consecutive matchups against playoff outsiders.

Right now, they fit that same description.

Thanks to four straight setbacks, three in a row in regulation before Monday 4 3 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flames find themselves three points out of the wildcard picture in the Western Conference. They are now five points back of third spot in the Pacific Division.

think we played some good hockey in some games that we didn get any points, but that not good enough at this point, said Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan. need to play good hockey and find a way to get wins. That starts tonight. We know this is going to be a hard game, and we need to find a way to get points. paper, they should get points out of their next four on the road against the Sabres and Ottawa Senators and then home dates with the New York Islanders and arch rival Edmonton Oilers. Each of those squads are in spoiler mode.

How the last 16 games of the season are unfolding:

Even without the services of star centre Jack Eichel (high ankle sprain), the Sabres have won three of their past four.

going to have to make sure we can at least match or exceed their work ethic, and then we need to have guys playing at the top of their games, Gulutzan said. you look at the way (the Sabres) have played the past few games, they playing some good hockey here. Hard hockey.

Johnny Gaudreau has gone cold, scoring just once in the past 10 games.1. SHOOTING BLANKS

The Flames need more production from their top guns, plain and simple. All star left winger Johnny Gaudreau snapped out of his four game offensive dry spell with a secondary assist in Monday 4 3 overtime loss in Pittsburgh but later misfired on a breakaway opportunity in sudden death. He only scored once in his past 10 contests. Gaudreau centre sidekick, Sean Monahan, has now been blanked in four straight skates. Calgary go go guys have combined for a minus 10 rating during the four game skid.

2. CREASE CONCERNS

Tuesday big news was a sighting of Flames stalwart Mike Smith, a surprise participant in an optional practice in Buffalo, but the injured all star isn ready to return just yet. Stuck on gate duties for five of the past six outings, David Rittich will be back between the pipes in Buffalo. The 25 year old from the Czech Republic has struggled mightily in a half dozen starts during Smith absence, with a 1 4 1 record and a woeful 4.41 goals against average and .864 save over that stretch.

3. REMEMBER ME?

Familiar face Chad Johnson will be in the opposing crease Wednesday. Johnson, of course, was raised in Calgary and served as the Flames backup last winter. The 31 year old racked up 32 saves in his return to the Saddledome in late January and has been rolling ever since that 2 1 overtime triumph against his old pals. He posted a 6 2 0 record, a 2.05 goals against average and .933 save percentage in his past nine nods.

4. SOMETHING TO PROVE

The Sabres are stuck in the basement in the Eastern Conference and will be playoff outsiders for a seventh consecutive spring, but they made a statement by stunning a couple of legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. In the past month, the boys from Buffalo have notched two victories apiece against the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning. That proof the Flames, fighting for their playoff lives, can afford to underestimate this opponent.

5. THIS N’ THAT

Sabres rising star Jack Eichel sniped the overtime winner during the Jan. 22 victory over the Flames at the Saddledome, but the 21 year old centre isn available for the rematch. A goodwill gesture by a giant grocery store chain offering customers a $25 gift card following charges of alleged bread price fixing could mean a lot of dough for Canadian food banks.

A London based grassroots movement encouraging Canadians to register for a Loblaw gift card and then donate it to a local food bank is gaining traction.

did see it on Facebook and I blasted it on my wall too, said Lynda Davidson who oversees the food bank at the Unemployed Help Centre and represents 15 more with the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association.

Davidson said donated cards would be a boon.

would help offset the stuff we don get regularly, she said. would be wonderful. Companies Ltd. announced its plan to offer customers a $25 gift card earlier this week after admitting the company participated in an industry wide bread price fixing conspiracy for almost 15 years.

Within hours of the announcement, people took to social media to express anger over the scam and then quickly lent their support to the rising notion of donating the cards for the betterment of the less fortunate.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) There no question the the flu is having an impact on the country this winter. The strength of the outbreak is reflected by the number of stories we done about it so far this season. In the latest flu map, the Centers for Disease Control says that all but four states are experiencing widespread flu activity. And even those four are impacted.

Across the city, more people than normal have gotten the flu. It kills as many as 56,000 Americans every year, and it puts hundreds of thousands in the hospital.

And speaking of the hospital. Across the nation, including Tupelo, there’s a shortage of saline and other solutions that are used to re hydrate flu victims. The main supplier for North Mississippi Medical Center is in Puerto Rico. That supplier was short on inventory to begin with. Then Hurricane Maria hit late last September, destroying production lines. And now, a larger than normal demand, thanks to the flu. Tina Stevens is the Clinical Resource Manager for the hospital. It’s her job to make sure there are enough IV bags to go around.

“This area has been hit hard by the flu,
ebay ugg Flu outbreak adding to shortage of IV bags
” she says. “Typically, we do see dehydration in our flu patients and that must be treated with the sterile IV solutions.”

“We are seeing volumes than normal with influenza, says Dr. Malinda Prewitt, who works in Infectious Diseases for the North Mississippi Medical Center. “We are also seeing family members who have it, staff who have it, and we’ve had higher than normal mortality rates this year.”

At Tupelo Schools, assistant superintendent Kim Britton says school attendance was down on Wednesday 4% to 91%, thanks to the flu. She urges parents to keep children home if they show any signs of the sickness.

So the flu outbreak is strong and seems to be having far reaching effects. Ultimately, of course, it will let up and we all move on. In the meantime, doctors say,

Dougie Hamilton vs. Senators D Erik Karlsson. It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see either or both of these names on Friday’s scoring summary. MT, Canadian Tire Centre, TV: Sportsnet West, Radio: Sportsnet 960 The Fan

It certainly wouldn be a surprise to see either or both of these names on Friday scoring summary. Hamilton buried a man advantage marker during Wednesday 5 1 shredding of the Sabres in Buffalo. The 24 year old has now tallied 15 times this season, tied for tops among all NHL rearguards in that stat category. Ottawa captain, Karlsson, is arguably the most dangerous defenceman on the planet. Monahan will be back in his usual first line slot against the Senators, and the Flames certainly need him for their playoff push. With his top shelf blast against the Sabres, Monahan hit the 30 goal mark for second time in his career. He continues to lead the NHL with 11 game winners this winter.

LAST LOOK? Could this really be the last time the Flames face Erik Karlsson in Ottawa colours? With the Senators plummeting in the standings, there was widespread speculation the two time Norris Trophy winner could be a goner at the trade deadline. Those rumours will certainly swirl again in the summer, when Karlsson is eligible to sign a contract extension. of right now, I going to worry about playing this season and doing as good as we possibly can to end the year that we have had, he told reporters Thursday.

HELPING HANDS Thanks to a pair of assists against the Sabres, all star left winger Johnny Gaudreau boosted his season total to 56 helpers, the most by a Flames setup ace in more than a decade. In Calgary club lore, only a half dozen guys have racked up 60 plus assists in a single season. Gaudreau is on track to join that exclusive club. The last to achieve that feat was fellow mighty mite Theoren Fleury, who had 66 apples during the 1992 93 campaign. Gaudreau career stat line so far shows 93 goals and 187 assists for 280 points. According to Elias Sports Bureau, only one active American skater produced more assists and more points in his first 300 games that would be Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane (189 A, 286 P).
